One of the improvements Land Rover made on the Defender compared to its predecessor the Series 3 was the implementation of coil springs as standard to replace a leaf spring set up. This improved ride quality and axle articulation.

The purpose of a Land Rover Defender suspension is to absorb any bumps and vibrations from the terrain.
