Unveiled shortly after the end of the second world war, the Land Rover Series 1 was the car that launched Land Rover as a world-recognised brand and helped to revolutionise the utility vehicle as a concept.
Designed by Maurice and Spencer Wilks, the Series 1 stands as a testament to the ingenuity and resourcefulness of those difficult times. For example, while the Series 1 was a brand new design, had the backing of the entire Rover Company, and was designed by the chairman himself, paint shortages meant that the Series 1 only came in various shapes of green!
The Land Rover Series 1 was designed to be a true utility vehicle -- able to work just as well rurally as it does in the urban environment. The vehicle’s flyleaf-based suspension system was designed to be able to carry heavy weights over difficult terrain, and its exhaust system, while basic, was designed for durability and to last for long periods between servicing.
However, while the Series 1 was well-designed and a classic, its parts don’t last forever. That’s why John Craddock is here. With a catalogue of over 100,000 pieces, John Craddock is the world’s largest supplier of Land Rover parts and accessories and one of the most trusted suppliers in the United Kingdom.
