The first of the Rover Company’s new designs, the vehicles that would go on to be called the series 1 and series 2 set the stage for the design that millions of enthusiasts know and love today. Initially designed as a response to the US military’s jeep – which saw extensive use in the second world war – the series 1 and 2 quickly found a place as the adventurer’s vehicle – a vehicle for the person looking to go off-road. Those early adventurers quickly realised the importance of protecting their spare wheels – otherwise they risked the material wearing away before being able to use them. As a result, the wheel cover was invented.
