Defender Master Cylinder

Defender Master Cylinder

The master brake cylinder is a crucial component within the hydraulic brake system of any vehicle. When you step on the brake pedal to slow down, the braking system uses a master cylinder to convert the pressure applied into hydraulic pressure. This conversion takes place because the master cylinder transfers brake fluid to the braking circuit.

If your master cylinder is showing signs or wear and tear, certain noticeable symptoms that will arise including, but not limited to, the illumination of the brake warning light, leaking brake fluid, a spongy brake pedal and a “sinking” brake pedal. This essentially means that you the pedal fails to return to the top once you’ve removed your foot.

A faulty master cylinder can seriously impact the performance and safety of your Defender so it's best to act quickly if yours isn't working correctly.
